Today’s blog is written from the sunny climbs of Busot, a little village 30 minutes outside of Alicante. Whilst the sun is a welcome addition it is always a shame to be missing out on Cereals 2018 which looks like its going to be a cracking event. Hopefully I will get to the next one. Its always great to see the machinery demos, new technology, listening to experts and speaking with suppliers putting names to faces.
The holiday has so far been taken up with plenty of tapas and cerveza – I have however been able to keep myself well connected to farm life and in contact with our customers from the comfort of my sun lounger!
New equipment
This week we have added two more pieces of kit to support our baling operations at harvest.
A 25ft bale trailer from Henry Saunders Agricultural Contractors in the Bedford area and a 3 bale spike from Mocho Agriculture (http://www.mochoagriculture.co.uk/). MOCHO specialise is fabrication of agricultural machinery and make products specific to your needs. The products are made to order and can be painted to suit you. Im really looking forward to the deliveries over the next couple of week.

Investing in our infrastructure is a great passion of mine and I am always looking to upgrade our equipment for better ensuring we can deliver on our promises to customers every time!
Straw Wanted
We are still looking to purchase standing straw at harvest across the Yorkshire area if you are interested in selling please get in touch. We can also offer a full harvest package including combining with our New Holland straw walker combine.
HS2
I have no doubt that many other farmers across the length of the current have been impacted by HS2, for others I’m sure are thanking their lucky stars that the route was altered. Sadly for us the amended phase 2b route is likely to have even more impact than we ever envisaged. The train line was already set to split our ring fenced land in two – we have now had sight of maps which show that not only are we facing the parcel being split by the line, the road passing the farm is going to be re-located through three of our other previously unaffected fields. What lays ahead is going to be a very daunting and challenging prospect to ensure future viability of our farm. The devastation it will cause to us is impossible to comprehend – no value is placed on the hard work of the generations prior to us to maintain and manage the farm bringing it to the point it is today. I can see lots of time in the future spent ensuring we are correctly compensated allowing us to continue farming for generations.
This week spelled the start of numerous land surveys that are required to take place.
