Farm Club

Real farm. Real skills. Learning that feels like play.

Welcome to Farm Club at Horncastle Farm—a place where children and young people can explore, create and learn through real experiences on our working family farm.

Our new six-week pilot programme brings together qualified teaching, woodland adventures, wildlife, cooking, farming and enterprise.

There will be no learning confined to a desk. Children might be hunting for minibeasts, measuring ingredients, building a wildlife habitat or developing a product for our farm café—all while naturally using maths, English, science, creativity and teamwork.

Whether your child is a little explorer or an older learner ready for a challenge, there is a Farm Club programme designed for them.

Little Farmers Stay & Play

Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 10am–12pm

Capacity: 20 children per session

Our relaxed, parent-accompanied Stay & Play sessions give younger children the freedom to explore, imagine, create and get wonderfully muddy.

Children can enjoy our woodland and indoor learning areas, with opportunities for:

  • Woodland adventures
  • Bug hunting
  • Den building
  • Nature-inspired crafts
  • Imaginative play
  • Wildlife activities
  • Experiences inspired by farming and the changing seasons

The sessions are child-led, allowing children to follow their interests and explore at their own pace. Our team will also introduce optional activities connected to nature and life on the farm.

Parents and carers stay and remain responsible for their children throughout the session.

Farm Explorers: Bugs, Beasts & Habitats

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10am–12pm or 1pm–3pm

Capacity: 12 children per session

Designed for ages 5 - 10

Our first six-week Home Education Farm Club project takes children into the fascinating world of bugs, beasts and the habitats found around Horncastle Farm.

Led by a qualified teacher, children will investigate the creatures living beneath their feet, around the woodland and across the farm.

Over the six weeks, they will:

  • Hunt for and identify minibeasts
  • Explore woodland, field and garden habitats
  • Discover what different creatures need to survive
  • Investigate food chains, pollination and ecosystems
  • Count, measure, compare and record their findings
  • Design and build something to support farm wildlife
  • Share what they have discovered at the end of the project

Maths, English and science are woven naturally into every investigation. Children will be learning throughout—but it will feel more like an adventure than a conventional lesson.

The programme can be adapted where appropriate. If your child falls outside the suggested age range or requires additional support, please contact us before booking.

Farm Kitchen: Cook, Create & Learn

Wednesdays, 1pm–3pm

Designed for ages 11 - 16

Capacity: 12 young people per session

This is much more than a cooking class.

Farm Kitchen gives young people the challenge of taking a food product from its first idea through recipe development, testing, costing and presentation.

Using our farm kitchens and working alongside members of our bakery team, they will consider:

  • What should we create?
  • Who might want to buy it?
  • How do we write and scale a workable recipe?
  • What will the ingredients and each portion cost?
  • How can we test and improve the product?
  • How should it be named, priced and presented?
  • Can we persuade the farm’s owners that it deserves a place in the café?

The course combines practical cooking with maths, English, business, creativity, teamwork and confident communication.

At the end of the project, young people will present their finished creations to the owners of Horncastle Farm for possible inclusion in our farm café.

Farm Lab: Skills, Enterprise & Adventure

Thursdays, 1pm–3pm

Capacity: 12 children per session

Designed for ages 11 - 16

Farm Lab is for young people who learn best by getting involved.

Each six-week project will use the working farm as a real-life classroom, giving young people the opportunity to develop practical skills, confidence, independence and problem-solving abilities.

Future projects may include:

  • Animal care and husbandry
  • Conservation and habitat management
  • Growing, harvesting and food production
  • Woodland and outdoor skills
  • Farm business and enterprise
  • Photography, media and marketing
  • Designing and making something for the farm
  • Planning a product, event or small farm market

Every project will have a purpose and something meaningful to work towards. No worksheets for the sake of worksheets. Farm Lab is about learning through practical challenges, working with others and seeing an idea become something real.

Why Choose Horncastle Farm Club?

Horncastle Farm Club is not a farm-themed classroom. It takes place on a real, working family farm.

Our children and young people can benefit from:

  • Sessions led by a qualified teacher
  • Genuine farm, woodland and food experiences
  • Small groups with a maximum of 12 in taught sessions
  • Projects connecting several areas of learning
  • Practical activities with meaningful outcomes
  • Opportunities to grow in confidence and independence
  • Learning that can be adapted to different interests and abilities
