Pork
Our pork comes from our much-loved Saddleback pigs — a wonderful British native breed that is currently listed as “at risk” by the Rare Breed Survival Trust. At Horncastle Farm, we’re proud to play our part in protecting and promoting these traditional pigs, beginning with our resident family: George (the dad), Pru (the mum), and Pearl (the aunty).
Pearl may be infertile, but that certainly doesn’t dull her enthusiasm — and it doesn’t stop her being the heart and soul of our pig team. She takes her aunty duties very seriously, often babysitting all ten piglets in a litter while Pru enjoys a cheeky break. Her gentle nature and dedication make her an irreplaceable member of the family.
Our pigs live outdoors all year round, free to wallow, snuffle, root, and behave exactly as pigs should. This natural, high-welfare lifestyle produces pork with exceptional flavour and tenderness — the kind you only get from animals raised slowly and respectfully on a British farm.
Pork is best cooked white, not pink (unless it’s bacon!), but however you prepare it, you can’t go wrong. Choosing Saddleback pork from Horncastle Farm means supporting British farmers, preserving a rare native breed, and enjoying truly delicious meat.
